Job Description:

Reporting to the Sr Operations Manager the Supervisor of Coffee process oversees the tactical execution of the daily work of the green coffee handlers as well as works closely with roasting, production, quality assurance, maintenance, and fulfillment departments to ensure safe and efficient production requirements are being met while maintaining strict product quality guidelines and expectations. This role will also support the inbound receiving process for green coffee and the in and outbound communications and system reconciliation for the brown finished goods to packaging lines through the brown silo system. This position requires demonstrated leadership, good judgment, and administer good sound decisions as well as the ability to develop, coach, train, and foster teamwork in a fast pace environment. Additionally, this position ensures improving bottom line results through department wide measurements that demonstrate continuous improvement in efficiencies and cost savings. This is a full time, non-exempt position and requires schedule flexibility to support a variety of shifts.


  • Oversee work flow of the Green Coffee handling team from green to roast and from roast to the production floor utilizing the N1500, brown silo, production hoppers and production super sacks.
  • Leads a staff of coffee handlers with varying levels of experience and education.
  • Accomplishes manufacturing results by communicating job expectations and plans and making courageous decisions when required.
  • Monitors green coffee handling expectations and provides appropriate coaching for job results.
  • Effectively communicates with internal and external customers and vendors including but not limited to, packaging, roasting, green supply warehouses.  
  • Assists in developing continuous improvements initiatives with workflow by monitoring steps of the process, setting processing variables, and observing control points and equipment.
  • Communicate flow of production as well as any equipment, quality, safety, or productivity issues to the Sr Operations Manager.
  • Assists in the completion of production plans by scheduling, assigning personnel, accomplishing work results, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising schedules, resolving problems, and reporting results on our shift production summaries.
  • Creates and revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record keeping systems, forms of control, and implementing change.
  • Evaluation of ERP/control systems to drive continuous improvement through optimizing and demonstrating more efficient ways of working.
  • Effectively motivate, train, and communicate with assigned team to assure superior levels of safety, reliability, cleanliness, and quality.
  • Demonstrate ownership of the green and brown areas within the areas of control in the facility by ensuring cleanliness, organization, and attractiveness of the production floor.
  • Gains a comprehensive understanding of all product flow and subsequent functionality in the ERP/control systems for all departments from green bean PO receipt to shipment of product to Customer/warehouse.
  • Effectively takes part in our employee safety committee or delegates appropriately, follows safety guidelines and ensures that safety concerns are being communicated down and upstream.
  • Comply with, enforce, and educate team members on food safety, GMP and AIB requirements.
  • Effectively coach, support, counsel, discipline, and develop direct reports to ensure the strategic intent and executions of strategies are realized.
  • Participate in other initiatives in the organization and be a critical contributor to improved solutions not limited to your own area of responsibility.

  • 5 plus years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing/production environment or warehouse pick/pack operation, or 4-7 years of experience in Peet’s Roasting Plant with a history of consistently good performance at Peet’s exceeding job expectations and acting as a role model for other employees.
  • Knowledgeable in continuous improvement and quality methodologies (i.e. lean, six-sigma); green or black belt certified a plus
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be quality minded, self-motivated, analytical and results oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, multi-function and manage time efficiently.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, production management tools, ERP and reporting systems.

 

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 75 LBS and manuever 150 lbs
  • Ability to work on your feet standing for 6 to 8 hours
  • Agile on your feet
